The New Outdoor Kitchen at The Mustard Seed

Back in March of this year, we planted a seed (if you’ll pardon the pun!) at The Mustard Seed Landscaping and Garden Center in Chaska. After having built an outdoor kitchen for the Mpls. home and garden show, we knew we were on to something! Now, if we could just find a high-profile location to build one permanently… An answer came from our friend John Wichmann with Coldwell Banker Burnet Realty. He suggested we contact Mark Halla at The Mustard Seed. So I stopped in one day and sat down with Mark and his design manager, Cory. We talked for the better part of an hour, and the seed, so to speak, was planted! Below is a picture of the blank slate we had to start with:

We started with the patio, but not just any patio! The outer patio is stamped in the Arizona Flagstone pattern, with each individual stone hand stained by our expert acid-stainer, Ryan. The inner patio features our Compass stamp surrounded by Belgium Slate texture skin, also stained by Ryan. Not only is it beautiful, it forms a solid foundation to build the kitchen on!

Pictured below is the structure with the stone applied, before the countertops and appliances were installed. Note the custom-built wine rack installed in the end near the refrigerator opening. The custom possibilities for our outdoor kitchens are truly limited only by your imagination!

Pictured below is the almost-finished final product! The countertops and stainless steel appliances are now completely installed, as well as the custom gas-burning firepit and sitting benches. Soon the outdoor living space will be complete with a final coat of sealer on the patios, final installation of the last of the accessories, and a bubbling rock water feature!

Countryside would like to take this opportunity to say a very special “Thank You!” to Mark and everyone at The Mustard Seed for giving us the space and opportunity to build the kitchen, and to all of our suppliers and contracting partners that helped us out on this project, specifically Tim at Acme-Ochs Brick; Chris, Charlie and the gang at Carver Brick & Stone; Art & the guys at Cunningham Outdoor Living; and Dean & his crew at Stasney Mechanical. Without the generous support of our partners, this project would likely not have been possible!

Take a look below at the final finished product! Note the working gas firepit, sitting benches, and bubbling basalt tower water feature. Whether you’re looking for something this extravagant, or simply a way to dress up a small corner of your backyard, contact Countryside today- we’re happy to help!
